Ebay wind turbines are so cheap and have really high output!
Unfortunately there are lot of really cheap nasty turbines on the market and ebay is a breeding ground for outright dishonest sellers. Not all are of course but it certainly lowers the tone for the honest sellers. Some things to look out for:
1. Never buy the "lantern" style turbines. These are vertical turbines and whilst they might look cool please avoid them. We tested one and it actually consumed more power than it produced. Hard to believe I know but its output was so bad the controller consumed more energy than the turbine put out.
2. There is a trend for sellers to up each other in terms of stating their turbines rated output. Some will proclaim 1500 Watts or greater. I'm sorry to say that based on the physical blade size and nacelle size this is simply impossible. We have bench tested a lot of turbines and the rated output is always way overstated. Most are in the order of 200 Watts to 500 Watts.
3. The other big issue with buying off Ebay is securing spare parts. You will notice that most of the sellers will be offering no spares. These turbines are mass produced and once the turbine develops a fault you may well be stuck with an unserviceable unit.
By all means don't let us put you off buying a turbine from ebay there is some gold in the coal if you know what you are looking for. If you really have your heart set on one contact us we are happy to give advice based on your budget.
